    Print and test

    • Print at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide for codes scanned at arm's length. A common rule of thumb: width ≈ scanning distance ÷ 10. A poster read from 2 m needs about 20 cm.
    • Keep the blank quiet zone (4 modules) around the code. Do not let borders, text or photos touch it.
    • Use dark modules on a light background with strong contrast. Avoid glossy laminates that cause glare under shop lights.
    • Use the SVG or PDF download for print shops; they stay sharp at any size.
    • Test the printed proof, not the screen: try at least one iPhone and one Android phone, at the real distance and in the real lighting, before printing the full run.
    • Shorter links make simpler codes. Remove tracking junk from copied links (for example everything after ?fbclid=) before generating.

    Frequently asked questions

    Do I need https://?

No. If you leave it out, the tool adds https:// automatically. Use http:// only if the site really has no HTTPS, because phones may warn about insecure links.

    What are UTM tags?

Standard query parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign) that analytics tools such as Google Analytics read. They let you count visits that came from the printed code. They are added to your link inside the code; this site never sees the visits.

Will the link still work in five years?

The code will always contain the same link. Whether it works depends on that web address still existing, so use a domain you control and keep the page online.

Can I use a link shortener?

You can, but the code then depends on the shortener staying in business and not deactivating the link. A direct link to your own domain is safer for anything printed.
