Print and test
- Print at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide for codes scanned at arm's length. A common rule of thumb: width ≈ scanning distance ÷ 10. A poster read from 2 m needs about 20 cm.
- Keep the blank quiet zone (4 modules) around the code. Do not let borders, text or photos touch it.
- Use dark modules on a light background with strong contrast. Avoid glossy laminates that cause glare under shop lights.
- Use the SVG or PDF download for print shops; they stay sharp at any size.
- Test the printed proof, not the screen: try at least one iPhone and one Android phone, at the real distance and in the real lighting, before printing the full run.
- Anyone who can photograph the code can join the network. Use a guest network for codes on display, and make a new code if you change the password.
- Test that a phone that has never joined the network before can connect; phones that already know the network can hide mistakes.
Frequently asked questions
Which phones can scan a Wi-Fi code?
The built-in camera on iPhones (iOS 11 and later) and on most Android phones (Android 10 and later, or via Google Lens) recognise Wi-Fi codes and offer to join.
Which security option should I choose?
Choose WPA/WPA2/WPA3 for almost all modern routers. Use "No password" only for open networks. WEP is outdated and insecure.
My network name has special characters. Is that OK?
Yes. Characters such as ; , : \ and " are escaped automatically as the Wi-Fi code format requires. Spelling and capital letters must match exactly.
Is my Wi-Fi password sent to your server?
No. There is no server involved in making the code. It is generated in your browser and the download is created on your device.
What does "hidden network" do?
Tick it only if your router does not broadcast its name. It tells the phone to look for the network even though it is not visible in the list.
